I personally feel intrigued on the present Charter Change issue on what really is the real score on this. I would like to think that the said proposed amendment to the Philippine Constitution is for the betterment of the nation as a whole, but several points terrified me of the possible outcome if such proposed amendment will be pursued. Yes, we need change – the way the present politics is being treated in relation to how the people on the position govern the country – but, we need change that would alleviate the lives of the people, not worsen these poverty-stricken lives; we need change that would seek to the best interest of each and every constituent, not to those few, who, when get to the top positions could still afford to cheat the people and could even eat up their rude intentions for personal gain; we need change that would be agreed upon by each and every Filipino, not by few, manipulative creatures. Such change is not through changing our type of government.
We cannot just change our democratic governance to Parliamentarianism. We cannot just easily give up our democratic rights and surrender our unrestricted principles by changing our constitution and altering our raised beliefs into a type that we know not a little, experience-wise. If the concern is that we can always adapt to it over time, then, I would say that learning and scrutinizing a certain type of government isn’t an easy deal. The point of question here is on the way the people handle the government. On the first place, how can we test the validity of these people who keep on pushing the proposed amendment for our constitution? How can we smoothly run a new type of government if we cannot even decently run our own? How can we attest the credibility of such a new government if the people are not educated well on this new form management?
With Speaker de Venecia’s suggestion, known as JDV Express, his target schedule for the whole process of constitution amendment is too abrupt and critical. If and only if the Supreme Court will not question the legitimacy of the people’s initiative, and everything will be done smoothly as these people desired, what will now happen to our nation? How can we now manage to settle our unresolved problems – political, social, economic – if we tend to escape our prime responsibility of solving this rotten situation we have? Especially now with Mrs. Gloria Arroyo’s leadership? Honestly, I have dropped my trust to her credibility as the president of the republic. Everything in her is a mess. Yes, she’s a clever president, but she has turned into a very incompetent person to lead the nation. Her cleverness will lead her to her fall, that’s for sure. I will surely watch out for that time.
