I must agree with one of my professors when he pointed out that understanding the deepest nature of the universe or the cosmos is the key to solving life’s puzzles and discovering the meaning of existence. Let me present my analysis in a philosophical approach by relating the term language into it. As defined by Ludwig Wittgenstein on his work on Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, language is a system of units, signs, arbitrary symbols used as a medium to impart knowledge and information, to communicate, and to convey thoughts and feelings to you and to others. Of course, there will only be a smooth transition of the use of language if one is expert on to that extent, when he knows how to manipulate it. To arrive at a consensus, that everyone has the same understanding on a certain matter, they must have the capability to apprehend the language used in the deepest essence. In this notion, conflicts and intricacies in daily human interactions may be avoided; thus, realizing the meaning of its existence. At its most profound, appreciating the value of the existence of everything in this world is the best guide to everyday living, especially to expanding our quest for knowledge. This is best seen in the yin-yang polarity, the unity of opposites.
I learned that opposite poles attract, the same compel; and this has not only been true to science as what we all typically know. Well, we might as well consider other fields. Take for example humanities. Let us dig to the most basic level. The good and evil tandem for instance. What does it provoke anyway? Consider both sides of the story. The former being branded as worry-free, pleasant, very smooth-sailing, all the positive attitudes that you can name of; the latter all the unconstructive, off putting, repulsive fixations we can think. Why is this so? One, perhaps, that is what the norm dictates. Possible. Two, that is how we perceive it as two opposite extremes. And then we go back to the first reason. But there is more than just looking it in a bird’s eye view, more to that reason that targets the inner core of reality. And that is, the unity of these two. As they are tandem, they go in rhythm and they go in pair. If one is involved, the other must be there too. The reason attached to the presence of one could never be evident enough if there has been no comparison made to the other. Let us say Juan flunked in his exam. We view it as something obnoxious, something negative. Well, the brighter side of this, however, is that because Juan failed to pass in his exam he has strong reasons for him to work it out for the next time. He could always see it as there is always a next chance. And maybe, by that time, he has already convinced himself to do more on his exams.
Another thing which I would like to focus with regards to the good and evil, best and worst notion is the idea being presented in the movie “The Dark Crystal”. There were two different races presented in the plot, each of which has developed its own identity, each of which has established its own way of expressing their views and concepts on how they see they should live life. The first was known for their ways of gentle wizards while the second was known for their harshness. It was arrogance and delusion that shattered the crystal, which led to vicissitudes of the two camps. Yet, it was courage and sacrifice that made them one again. I will not elaborate more on the entire stretch of the story because it would take me a time for that. Let me just move on to presenting my realization about it. I believe that the clash between the two races were just mere representations for the characters we persons have. Men, by nature, is partially good and evil, as to there is no one perfect — neither absurd. Men, being rational, however, know what is bad and what is good, how it feels to be bad and to be good, and when one becomes mean and when one becomes not; though at times, we unconsciously take the distinctions of the two for granted. In the end, we still must inculcate in our minds that everything that had happened, is happening and will be happening to us were all, are all and will all be the products of the responsibilities we imposed, are imposing and will be imposing to ourselves.
Above are clear manifestations of the unity of opposites that if properly understood and applied, will surely remain in unity and harmony in the deepest sense despite their extreme differences.
